You commit an offence if you break a rule in the Births, Deaths, Marriages, and Relationships Registration Act 2021. You also commit an offence if someone tells you about a rule and you refuse to give the information required by the Act. If you commit one of these offences, you can be fined up to $1,000. You can be fined different amounts for breaking other rules in the Act. For example, you can be fined up to $50,000 for breaking certain rules, such as those in section 116(7) or clause 13 of Schedule 1. You can be fined up to $10,000 for breaking the rule in section 40. This section does not change or affect section 150 of the Crimes Act 1961. You can be fined up to $1,000 for breaking other rules in the Act. These fines are for when you break a rule on purpose or do not follow the rules.
