Illustration for Incorporated Societies Act 2022

You are part of a society and it has a committee. The committee must send you a written notice about a resolution. This notice must be sent to you at least a certain number of working days before a general meeting. The number of days is either 20 working days or the number specified in the society's constitution. You will get the notice at an address you have given the society or at the address they know is yours. The notice must tell you when and where the meeting is, what will be discussed, and the exact resolution. It must also tell you if you can appoint a proxy, or vote by post or electronically. If the resolution is about a certain topic, the notice must say the committee considered the society's purposes. The notice might include other information the society's constitution says it must. When the law talks about your address, it means the address you gave the society or the one they know is yours. This can be a physical address or an electronic one, like an email address.
