Privacy Act 2020

Access to and correction of personal information - Correction of personal information

60: Urgency

You could also call this:

"Asking to fix personal information quickly because it's urgent"

Illustration for Privacy Act 2020

If you want to correct some personal information, you can ask for it to be done urgently. You make an urgent correction request when you think it needs to be fixed quickly. You must say why you think it is urgent.

When an agency gets your urgent correction request, they look at it and the reason you gave for it being urgent. They use this information to decide how quickly they need to respond to your request. They have to consider your reason for wanting it done urgently when they decide what to do.

You can compare this to what the law said in the past, for example in s 37 of a previous law. This law is about how agencies must handle your personal information. You have the right to ask for your information to be corrected, and to ask for it to be done urgently if you need to.
