"When the national emergency plan starts and ends, and how it's kept up to date"

The national civil defence emergency management strategy takes effect 28 days after it is published under the Legislation Act 2019, or on a later date specified in the strategy. You can think of the strategy as a plan that helps keep you safe during emergencies. The strategy remains current for 10 years, or for a shorter period specified in the strategy, unless section 36 says otherwise.

The Minister is responsible for making sure there is always a current national civil defence emergency management strategy in place. This means the Minister must ensure a new strategy is developed before the current one expires.

You can expect the Minister to review and update the strategy as needed to keep you safe during emergencies.
