Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002

Powers in relation to civil defence emergency management

74: Statements by Director

You could also call this:

"The Director's emergency updates: keeping you safe and informed during a crisis."

The Director can publish statements to help keep you safe during an emergency. This can include information about what is happening or what people need to do. The Director can also publish statements about whether people are doing what they are supposed to do according to this Act.

If the Director publishes a statement, it is protected by something called qualified privilege. This means that the Director has some protection if someone tries to take action against them because of what they said in the statement. You can think of qualified privilege like a shield that helps protect the Director when they are trying to share important information with you.
