35: House of Representatives may resolve not to approve civil defence emergency management strategy

The House of Representatives can decide not to approve a civil defence emergency management strategy. You need to know that this strategy usually takes effect under section 34 unless the House of Representatives makes this decision within 15 sitting days. If they do not approve it, the strategy does not take effect.

If the House of Representatives decides not to approve the strategy, the Minister has to create a revised strategy. They must do this within 30 working days, following the rules in section 32. The Minister also has to present this revised strategy to the House of Representatives.

The revised strategy then takes effect, just like the original one would have, as outlined in the rules.

35House of Representatives may resolve not to approve civil defence emergency management strategy

  1. The civil defence emergency management strategy takes effect under section 34 unless, within 15 sitting days after it is presented, the House of Representatives resolves not to approve the civil defence emergency management strategy.

  2. If the House of Representatives resolves not to approve a civil defence emergency management strategy, the Minister must, within 30 working days of that resolution,—

  3. complete a revised civil defence emergency management strategy under section 32; and
    1. present the revised civil defence emergency management strategy to the House of Representatives under section 32.

      1. The revised civil defence emergency management strategy takes effect in accordance with subsection (1).
