Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002

Offences, penalties, and proceedings

96: Withholding information or giving false or misleading information

You could also call this:

"Telling lies or hiding information when asked is against the law"

If you are asked to give information under sections like section 76, section 91, section 94I(1), or section 94N, you must provide it. You commit an offence if you intentionally do not give the information on time or if you give false information on purpose.

If you are asked to give information and you do not, or if you give false information, you might be prosecuted. However, you cannot be prosecuted until after the time to appeal has ended under section 77, and if you do appeal, you cannot be prosecuted until the appeal is finished.

You have to follow the rules and give the correct information when you are asked to do so. If you do not follow the rules, you can get in trouble.
