Illustration for Armed Forces Discipline Act 1971

When you get a punishment for doing something wrong in the Armed Forces, the person who gave you the punishment can't make it worse later. They can make it less severe at any time before you have finished serving the punishment. If someone higher up, like a commanding officer, is looking at your punishment, they can make it less severe, but they can't make it worse. This is how punishments can be reduced in the Armed Forces, as stated in the Armed Forces Discipline Act 1971, which was amended by the Armed Forces Discipline Amendment Act (No 2) 2007.
