You can find information about fire seasons on public conservation land. Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) can declare a prohibited or restricted fire season for any area by public notice. FENZ can also amend or revoke these declarations. You need to know what type of fire season is in place for your area. If it is not prohibited or restricted, it is an open season. FENZ can impose restrictions on lighting fires in open air during a restricted fire season. There are rules about lighting fires in open air on public conservation land during a restricted fire season. You can only light a fire if you have a permit granted under regulations made under section 190. This helps keep you and others safe.
