You need to know what Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) must do for its volunteers. FENZ must take reasonable steps to recognise and respect the work of its volunteers. This includes the work they do to help FENZ and to keep communities safe. FENZ must also talk to its volunteers and other groups about things that might affect them. FENZ has to make policies that help its volunteers do their jobs well. The rules that apply to Crown Entities, like FENZ, also apply to its volunteers, as seen in section 118 of the Crown Entities Act 2004. Being a FENZ volunteer does not make you an employee, as explained in section 6 of the Employment Relations Act 2000. You can find more information about the groups FENZ must consult with in section 37.
