You need to know that Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) has rules about keeping information and documents secret. This applies to information and documents given to FENZ under certain sections, like sections 93 and 95. FENZ must keep this information secret unless it is already public or they have a good reason to share it. You should be aware that FENZ can share information if it is in a statistical form or if they need to for their work. They can also share it with someone who has a proper interest in the information or if the person it is about agrees. FENZ must make sure the right protections are in place to keep the information secret, especially if it is personal information as defined in the Privacy Act 2020. FENZ has to be careful when sharing information to make sure it does not get into the wrong hands. They must only share it with people who need to know and make sure it is kept secret. This is to protect the people the information is about and to make sure FENZ follows the law.
