You need to carry a permit when you are getting ready for a fire, lighting it, and until it is out. You must also show the permit to an authorised person when they ask for it. This rule applies to fires lit under a permit granted under section 190. If you do not follow this rule without a good reason, you can get in trouble. You might have to pay a fine or go to prison for up to 2 months if you are an individual. If you are not an individual, you might have to pay a fine. You have to follow these rules to avoid getting in trouble with the law. The law is part of the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017. You must show your permit to stay out of trouble.
