You can think of local advisory committees as groups that help Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) by giving them advice from a local perspective. Their main job is to provide this advice to FENZ. They do this by working with the local community and considering local issues. You will be giving advice on things like the national strategy and local planning. You will also think about what is best for the local FENZ volunteers and the industry brigades in your area. When making decisions, you must consider any agreements FENZ has with other organisations, such as the Department of Conservation under section 147, the New Zealand Defence Force under section 148, and the Ministry of Education under section 151. When you are doing your job, you must remember to follow the operating principles developed by the board under section 17. You will also give FENZ regular updates on how their local planning is going. This helps FENZ make sure they are doing what is best for your local area.
