Illustration for Land Transfer Act 2017

You can stop an application from being approved if you claim to have an estate or interest in the land. You do this by lodging a caveat, which is a document that prevents the application from being granted. The caveat document must have the right information and be lodged within a certain time frame, as specified in a notice under section 161. You or your agent must sign the caveat document. The document must contain the prescribed information and be lodged on time. Other parts of the law, such as sections 144 and 146 to 148, also apply to caveats lodged under this section. If you want to lodge a caveat, you must follow the rules and do it correctly. The law has specific requirements for caveats, and you must meet those requirements. You can find more information about caveats and how they work in the law.
