Illustration for Planning Bill

You can have a land use plan or a proposed land use plan that says an area in a district must follow certain rules. These rules can be temporary or they can be for the future. If an area has to follow both temporary and future rules, the future rules start when the territorial authority gives notice under section 96 that the relevant rules are met. You will have to follow the temporary rules until the territorial authority gives this notice. Then you will have to follow the future rules. This means the area will be subject to the future rules from the date of the notice. The territorial authority's notice under section 96 is important because it determines when the future rules apply. You will know when to start following the future rules because of this notice. The rules that apply to an area can change over time, and this notice helps you understand when these changes happen.
