This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Planning Bill

Key roles - Functions and powers of central and local government - Ministerial functions

183: Minister of Conservation has certain powers of local authority

You could also call this:

"The Minister of Conservation has some local council powers for certain islands."

Illustration for Planning Bill

The Minister of Conservation will have some powers like a local council. You will see these powers in coastal marine areas around some islands. The Minister can make decisions like a regional council for these areas. The Minister can do things a regional council can do under this proposed law. This is for the islands mentioned, like the Kermadec Islands and Campbell Island. The Minister already has some responsibilities and powers, and this adds more. These new powers are extra, they do not replace what the Minister can already do. You can find out more about what a regional council can do under section 222(4). The Minister's new powers will help with decision-making for these island areas.
