This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

"What information must be on an infringement notice?"

Illustration for Planning Bill

If you get an infringement notice, it must have certain information on it. You need to know what the alleged offence is, including when and where it happened. The notice must also say how much you have to pay. The notice will tell you where to send the payment and how to pay it. You will know how long you have to pay the fee. The notice will also explain what happens if you do not pay or ask for a hearing. It must include a summary of section 21(10) of the Summary Proceedings Act 1957 and tell you that you can ask for a hearing. You will be told what will happen if you do nothing. The notice may have other information that the regulations require, made under section 281.
