This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

You could also call this:

"Charges for using council services or breaking rules"

Illustration for Planning Bill

If a territorial authority wants to charge you for something, they can fix charges for certain things. You might have to pay charges when you make an application or request under this proposed law. You could also have to pay charges if the territorial authority thinks you have broken this proposed law. The territorial authority can charge you to cover their costs of doing their job under this proposed law. They can also charge you if you break a rule or a permit, and they need to check what you have done. Sometimes, regulations will say what charges the territorial authority can make. The territorial authority must follow rules set out in regulations when they decide how much to charge you. This means they have to fix charges in a way that is fair and follows the regulations.
