This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Planning Bill

Preliminary provisions

10: Treaty redress or arrangements to be given same or equivalent effect

You could also call this:

"Treaty settlements must be treated the same as they are now under the new law."

You will see changes to how Treaty settlement redress or arrangements work. These changes apply until an agreement is reached under section 9. You need to know that these changes are part of a proposed new law. You must give the same or equivalent effect to Treaty settlement redress or arrangements as they have under the Resource Management Act 1991. This means people using this new law must try to make the effects the same. This is how it will work for you when you are involved with this new law. This section does not change how statutory acknowledgements work. It only applies to certain parts of the law. You should look at the whole law to understand how it all works together.
