This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Illustration for Natural Environment Bill

The Natural Environment Bill proposes a new rule for how long a natural resource permit can last. You need to follow the rules in this section to determine the duration of the permit, unless sections 179 or 180 apply. The permit's duration is decided based on its type. The proposed bill says some natural resource permits can be granted for an unlimited time. You can get a coastal permit for a reclamation or a land use permit for a reclamation that would otherwise break section 19 rules without a time limit. These permits have no end date. For other natural resource permits, the maximum duration is 35 years from when the permit starts, or 5 years if no duration is specified. This rule is also subject to section 181(b), which is about permits lapsing. You should check this section to understand how it applies to your permit.
