This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Natural Environment Bill

Preliminary provisions

10: Treaty redress or arrangements to be given same or equivalent effect

You could also call this:

"Treaty agreements are given the same importance as other environmental laws."

Illustration for Natural Environment Bill

You will see changes to how Treaty settlement redress or arrangements work. These changes apply until an agreement is reached under section 9. You need to know that people using this Act must give the same effect to Treaty settlement redress or arrangements as the Resource Management Act 1991 does. This means people must try to make the effects of Treaty settlement redress or arrangements the same under this Act. However, this section does not apply to statutory acknowledgements. This is how Treaty settlement redress or arrangements will be treated under the proposed Natural Environment Bill.
