This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Natural Environment Bill

Enforcement and other matters - Miscellaneous - Coastal occupation charges and rents and royalties

322: Regional councils to pay rents, royalties, and other money received into Crown Bank Account

You could also call this:

"Regional councils must pay money they collect to the government's bank account"

Illustration for Natural Environment Bill

If you get a permit to use land or natural resources, you have to pay money to the government. You pay this money to your local regional council, who collects it on behalf of the government. The regional council then puts this money into a special government bank account, following the rules of the Public Finance Act 1989.
