This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Natural Environment Bill

Key roles - Functions and powers of central and local government - Minister of Conservation

220: Minister of Conservation to has powers of regional council

You could also call this:

"The Minister of Conservation has extra powers to care for some special islands."

Illustration for Natural Environment Bill

The Minister of Conservation may have the same powers as a regional council for certain islands. You can think of these powers like the ones a regional council has for the coastal marine area. The Minister may also have the same powers as a territorial authority for these islands. The islands include the Kermadec Islands, the Snares Islands, the Bounty Islands, the Antipodes Islands, the Auckland Islands, Campbell Island, and the islands near Campbell Island. These powers are extra and do not replace the Minister's other responsibilities and duties. The Minister already has some responsibilities and duties, and this section adds more.
