69A: Extension during epidemic of period within which community work must be done

You could also call this:

"More time to do community work during an epidemic"

Illustration for Sentencing Act 2002

If you are doing community work as part of your sentence, you usually have to finish it within a certain time. While an epidemic management notice is in force, the chief executive of the Department of Corrections can let probation officers extend the time you have to finish your community work by up to 12 months. This means you might have more time to complete your community work if there is an epidemic.

The chief executive can decide to extend the time for all offenders or just for certain types of offenders. You can find more information about the laws that allow the chief executive to make this decision in the Sentencing Amendment Act (No 2) 2006 and the Sentencing Amendment Act 2007.

This extension is not something you can demand, it is up to the chief executive and the probation officers to decide if you can have more time to finish your community work.
