Customer and Product Data Act 2025

Protections - Complaints

50: Rules of scheme may be changed to provide for complaints about regulated data services

You could also call this:

“Scheme rules can be changed to let customers complain about data services”

The person in charge of a scheme can change its rules to handle complaints about regulated data services. They can do this in a way that the regulations say is okay. These changes can let customers complain about how data holders or accredited requestors act when they provide or ask for regulated data services. The new rules can also say how these complaints should be looked into and dealt with.

The regulations might say that some rules from other laws don’t apply when changing the scheme’s rules. This means that even if other laws say something different, these changes can still happen. The changes can be made even if other laws usually say that someone needs to agree or approve them first.

In this part of the law, a ‘scheme’ means a way of solving arguments that was set up, approved, or allowed by other laws for any reason.

You should know that these rules are part of a law about customer and product data in New Zealand. They’re trying to make it easier for people to complain if they’re not happy with how their data is being used or shared.
