This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Customer and Product Data Bill

Administrative matters - Chief executive’s functions

96: Chief executive’s functions

You could also call this:

“The chief executive's job is to make sure everyone follows the rules about data”

The new law wants to create a role called the chief executive. This person will have some important jobs to do. They will be in charge of making sure data services follow the rules.

You might be wondering what data services are. Well, they’re ways that companies handle information about you and the things you buy.

The chief executive will do lots of different things. They will warn people if they’re not following the rules. They will also write reports and guidelines to help people understand what they should do.

The chief executive will also give special permission to some people to ask for data. They will make rules called standards that everyone has to follow. They will keep a list of important information called a register.

Another big job for the chief executive will be to make sure everyone is following the new law. If someone breaks the rules, the chief executive will look into it and do something about it.

The chief executive will also help give information to customers, companies, and anyone else who needs to know about these rules. They will work with other people who make sure rules are followed in other areas.

Lastly, the chief executive will always be looking at the rules to make sure they’re working well. They will even look at how other countries handle similar things.
