This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Customer and Product Data Bill

Preliminary provisions - Purpose

3: Purpose

You could also call this:

“This law helps you see and share your information to make things better for everyone”

This new law aims to set up rules about how certain information can be used. It wants to make this information more valuable for you, businesses, and everyone in New Zealand. The law also wants to encourage companies to compete and come up with new ideas that will help you in the long run.

The law plans to do this by making it easier for you to see and use information that companies have about you. You can also let other people you trust see this information. It will also make it easier to find out about products in some parts of New Zealand’s economy. To keep everything safe and working well, the law will require certain protections and standards for how this information is shared and used.
