This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Customer and Product Data Bill

Regulatory and enforcement matters - Civil liability - Jurisdiction

95: Jurisdiction of Disputes Tribunal

You could also call this:

“The Disputes Tribunal can handle cases about customer and product data problems up to $30,000”

The Customer and Product Data Bill suggests creating a new rule about the Disputes Tribunal. This rule would let the Disputes Tribunal hear cases where people ask for money because of problems related to customer and product data. The Tribunal could only deal with cases where the amount of money asked for is $30,000 or less.

The bill also says that when the Disputes Tribunal makes a decision, it can’t tell someone to pay more than $30,000. It also can’t say that someone doesn’t have to pay more than $30,000 to another person.

If the Disputes Tribunal tries to make a decision that goes beyond these limits, that decision won’t count at all.

Remember, this is just a proposed change to the law, not the current law. The government is thinking about making these changes to help solve disputes about customer and product data.
