This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Customer and Product Data Bill

Administrative matters - Register

121: Contents of register that is publicly available

You could also call this:

“What information about data holders and requestors can you see in the public register?”

The new law proposes to create a public register with information about data holders and accredited requestors. This register will be available for you to see.

For data holders, the register will show their name and New Zealand Business Number. It will tell you what types of customer and product data they must provide, and when they need to start providing it. The register will also list what kinds of action requests they must perform and when. You’ll be able to see how to complain about their data services and how to contact them.

For accredited requestors, the register will show their name and New Zealand Business Number too. It will tell you what they are accredited for and what types of accreditation they have. You’ll also find information on how to complain about their data services and how to contact them.

The register might include other information if the law says it should. The person in charge (called the chief executive) must make sure all this information is available for you to see.
