When you send or receive information to or from Customs using a registered system, Customs must keep a record of it. They must keep a record of every time they send information to a registered user or receive information from a registered user. You can see similar rules in the 1996 No 27 s 136 legislation. Customs must keep these records for at least 7 years after the information was sent or received. They might need to keep the records for a different amount of time if that is prescribed. You can find more information about this rule in the Customs and Excise Act 2018.
