Illustration for Customs and Excise Act 2018

When you bring human remains into or out of New Zealand, this law applies to you. The human remains are not considered goods, but you must still enter them as if they were being imported or exported. You must follow the rules like you would for goods.

You have to follow some specific rules, which are explained in section 75(1), (4), and (5), section 78, section 89(1) and (3) to (6), section 92, sections 363 to 365, and section 405. These rules tell you what you need to do when bringing human remains into or out of New Zealand. You must do what these rules say.
