When the Social Workers Registration Act 2003 is passed, some parts of it will start on a date chosen by the Governor-General. You can find these parts in sections 6 to 149 and the schedules. The Governor-General can choose different dates for different parts of the Act.

The parts of the Act that are in sections 97 to 113 or in Schedule 1 must start no later than 12 months after the Act is passed. The rest of the Act will start the day after it is passed.

If the Governor-General makes an order about when parts of the Act start, it is called secondary legislation, which has its own rules for publication, as explained in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019.
