The Board can appoint a professional conduct committee to look at a particular case or cases. You can think of this committee like a team that helps make decisions about social workers. The committee has two social workers and one person who is not a social worker. The Board can choose who is on the committee and can change the members if needed. When the Board is choosing members for the committee, they think about who would be best to help with the case, and if it would be good to have someone from a particular ethnic or cultural group, like Māori, on the committee.

The Board makes sure that no one from the Board or the Tribunal is on the committee. The Board chooses one member of the committee to be in charge of the meetings. You can find more information about the Social Workers Registration Legislation Act 2019 on the New Zealand legislation website.
