If you are a social worker, you can ask for your registration to be cancelled by making a written application to the Board. The Board may then cancel your registration. You can do this if you want to stop being a registered social worker.

The Board cannot cancel your registration if there is a disciplinary action against you that has started or is still happening under this Act, or if you are being investigated by the Health and Disability Commissioner.

If the Board does cancel your registration, the Registrar will try to give you a copy of the decision, so you know what is happening with your registration.

127Social worker may ask for registration to be cancelled

  1. On the written application of a social worker, the Board may cancel the social worker's registration.

  2. The Board must not cancel a social worker’s registration if—

  3. disciplinary action against the social worker under this Act has begun or is pending; or
    1. the social worker is the subject of an investigation by the Health and Disability Commissioner.

      1. The Registrar must make reasonable efforts to give a copy of the direction to the social worker.
