The Social Workers Disciplinary Tribunal has members appointed by the Minister. You need to know that the Tribunal includes a chairperson and one or more deputy chairpersons who are barristers or solicitors with at least 7 years of practice. The Tribunal also has at least 5 social workers and at least 1 layperson as members.

The social workers on the Tribunal must have a valid registration or practising certificate, meaning their registration or certificate cannot be suspended. When it comes to the members, you should be aware that a member of the Board cannot be a member of the Tribunal at the same time.

The rules about who can be on the Tribunal were updated by the Social Workers Registration Amendment Act 2025, which changed the original rules on 30 March 2025.
