147A: Power to obtain information

You could also call this:

"The Board can ask for information to check if someone broke the law"

Illustration for Social Workers Registration Act 2003

The Board can ask you for information if they think someone has broken the law, specifically section 148(2) to (5). They will send you a written notice asking for the information. You might need to give them documents or copies of documents that you have. You have to give the Board the information they ask for, and you must do it within the time frame they specify and in the way they ask. You cannot charge the Board for giving them the information. Before the Board asks you for information, they must first ask the person the information is about to provide it, unless that would cause problems with the law. This rule is also subject to section 147B, which is about privilege.
