To get provisional registration, you need to meet some conditions. The Board must be satisfied that you are competent to work as a social worker, as found under Part 3. You also need to be a fit and proper person to work as a social worker, and meet some of the criteria in section 6 or section 7, while working towards meeting the rest.

If you have had a provisional certificate of registration before, the Board must be satisfied that you have made good progress in meeting all the criteria in section 6 or section 7, or that you have good reasons for not making progress. The Board looks at your situation to decide if you should be registered provisionally.

14Criteria for provisional registration

  1. The Board must decide that the applicant should be registered provisionally if satisfied—

  2. that the applicant’s competence to practise as a social worker has been found satisfactory under Part 3; and
    1. that they are a fit and proper person to practise as a social worker, meet some of the other criteria in section 6 or 7, and are in the process of working towards meeting the rest of them; and
      1. in the case of an applicant who has previously held a provisional certificate of registration, that they—
        1. have already made satisfactory progress in working towards meeting all the criteria in section 6 or 7; or
          1. have good reasons for not having made satisfactory progress in doing so.
