If you have a qualification to be a social worker, you can register to work as one. The Board must be satisfied that you are competent to practise as a social worker, as found under Part 3. You must also be a fit and proper person to work as a social worker.

You need to be able to work with Māori and various ethnic and cultural groups in New Zealand. You must have enough practical experience in working as a social worker. The Board will only check your competence if they receive information that raises doubts about it.

The Board checks if you are competent, a fit and proper person, and have the right experience. They want to make sure you can work well with different people in New Zealand. You can find more information about this in the Part 3 of the Act.
