This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Customer and Product Data Bill

Protections - Customer data, product data, and action performance policies

48: Contravention of policy requirement is infringement offence

You could also call this:

“Breaking data rules could lead to a fine”

This part of the proposed law says that if you don’t follow certain rules about customer data, product data, and how things are done, you might have to pay a fine. These rules are called ‘specified policy requirements’.

If you break one of these rules, it’s called an ‘infringement offence’. This means you might have to pay a fine of $20,000, or if it goes to court, you could be fined up to $50,000.

The law will explain exactly which rules count as ‘specified policy requirements’ in another part of the bill. These rules will be set out in regulations or standards that go with the law.

Remember, this is part of a proposed new law, so it’s not in effect yet. It’s just explaining what might happen if the law is passed and someone breaks these rules in the future.
