The Minister can cancel your New Zealand travel document electronically. This means they can record the cancellation on a database without needing the actual document. You do not have to give them the document before they cancel it, according to section 27I(1) and (2).

The Minister can do this for various reasons, which are listed in sections 8, 9, 9A, 20, 25, 27D, 27GA, and 27H. These sections explain when a travel document can be cancelled. The Minister follows these rules when deciding to cancel a document electronically.

When the Minister cancels your travel document, they do not need to have it in their hands. They can cancel it without you giving it to them. This is how the Minister can cancel your New Zealand travel document electronically, as explained in the relevant legislation.
