Illustration for Intelligence and Security Act 2017

If you are an authorised user, you must use a person's national student number correctly. You can use it if you are allowed to under section 344, or if the Intelligence and Security Act 2017 says you can. If you use or share a national student number in any other way, you can be charged with an offence and fined up to $15,000. You will be following the rules if you use the national student number as the Intelligence and Security Act 2017 says you can, or if you have permission under section 137 or 138 of that Act. The law is clear about how you can use a person's national student number, and you must follow it to avoid getting in trouble.
