Consequential amendments

Schedule 2: Databases accessible to intelligence and security agencies

You could also call this:

"What databases intelligence agencies can access"

Illustration for Intelligence and Security Act 2017

You can access some databases if you work for the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) or the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS). These databases have information like birth and death records, which are held by the Registrar-General. The GCSB and NZSIS can also access citizenship information held by the Secretary for Internal Affairs. You can see what databases the GCSB and NZSIS can access in the table. The table shows what information the agencies can access and who holds that information. For example, the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment holds information collected under the Immigration Act 2009. The NZSIS can access some information held by the New Zealand Police, like information about people who might be a threat to NZSIS employees. The Police also hold information about firearms, which the NZSIS can access to help the Police decide if someone is a fit and proper person to have a firearm. The GCSB and NZSIS can access financial intelligence information held by the New Zealand Police.
