Health Act 1956

Quarantine

97D: Powers and duties of medical officer of health or health protection officer in relation to quarantinable diseases

You could also call this:

"What health officers can do to stop the spread of serious diseases when you arrive in New Zealand"

If you arrive in New Zealand on a craft and you have a quarantinable disease, a medical officer of health or a health protection officer can take action. They can require you to be examined, and they can take bodily samples from you if they need to. They can also take samples from the craft you are on.

The officer can ask the captain of the craft to help take steps to prevent the spread of infection, such as destroying birds, insects, or rodents, or removing conditions that might spread infection. If the officer wants to examine you or take a sample, you must allow them to do so. This is according to section 97(2), which explains when these actions can be taken.

You must cooperate with the medical officer of health or health protection officer when they are trying to prevent the spread of infection.
