140: Repeals and savings

When a law is repealed, it means it is no longer in force. The laws listed in Schedule 7 are repealed. The regulations and notices listed in Schedule 8 are also revoked.

If a law is repealed, things that happened under that law are still valid. This is because of the Interpretation Act 1999.

Some regulations made under the Social Hygiene Act 1917 are still in force under this Act, except if they disagree with Part 3 of this Act.

140Repeals and savings

  1. The enactments specified in Schedule 7 are hereby repealed.

  2. The regulations and notices specified in Schedule 8 are hereby revoked.

  3. Without limiting the provisions of the Interpretation Act 1999, it is hereby declared that the repeal of any provision by this Act shall not affect any document made or any thing whatsoever done under the provision so repealed or under any corresponding former provision, and every such document or thing, so far as it is subsisting or in force at the time of the repeal and could have been made or done under this Act, shall continue and have effect as if it had been made or done under the corresponding provision of this Act and as if that provision had been in force when the document was made or the thing was done.

  5. Any regulations made under the Social Hygiene Act 1917 and in force at the commencement of this Act shall be deemed to have been made under this Act and shall continue in force accordingly, except so far as any provision of those regulations is inconsistent with any provision of Part 3.
