Health Act 1956

Quarantine

100: Quarantine signal for ships

You could also call this:

"Showing a quarantine flag on a ship when it's not safe for people to come ashore"

When you are the master of a ship that needs to be quarantined, you must put up a special quarantine signal. You need to hoist this signal at the mainmast head of your ship before you get close to a port where you plan to stop. You have to keep the signal up until you get permission to come ashore, which is called pratique.
