Health Act 1956

Miscellaneous provisions

127: Attendance of medical officer of health at meetings of local authorities

You could also call this:

"Local doctors can join council meetings to talk about community health"

The medical officer of health can attend meetings of your local council if they ask or agree to it. You can think of the medical officer of health like a doctor who helps keep your community healthy. At these meetings, the medical officer of health can join in discussions about public health, which is about keeping people in your community healthy, or about what the local council can and must do according to the Health Act 1956. The medical officer of health cannot vote on decisions at these meetings and must leave if the person in charge asks them to. This rule is part of the Health Act 1956, which you can find more information about on the New Zealand legislation website.
