Public Works Act 1981

Railways and tramways regulation and inspection - Local railways and tramways

178: Appointment of Inspector

You could also call this:

“The government picks someone to look at local train tracks and stations”

The Minister can choose someone to check local railways. This person can be given permission to look at all local railways whenever needed, or just certain parts of a railway.

If you’re the person chosen to check the railway, you can go into the railway area at times that make sense. You might need to show a special card that says you’re allowed to be there. You can look at the railway itself, the stations, any buildings, and the trains.

If you try to stop the person checking the railway from doing their job, you’re breaking the law.
