Public Works Act 1981

Gazetting, revocation, amendment, and registration of documents

53: Proclamations and declarations not to take effect until gazetted

“Official government announcements for public works only start working when published in the special government newspaper”

When the government issues a Proclamation or declaration under the Public Works Act 1981 or any earlier Public Works Act, it doesn’t start working right away. You need to know that these official announcements only take effect when they are published in the Gazette. The Gazette is like a special government newspaper. Sometimes, the Proclamation or declaration might say it will start working on a later date. If it does, then it will start on that date instead of when it’s published. There’s one exception to this rule, which is explained in section 55 of the Act.
