Public Works Act 1981

Compensation - The award

95: Finality of award and enforcement

You could also call this:

“The decision on payment is final, but getting the money might take extra steps”

The award decides how much money should be paid. You can’t change this amount once it’s decided. However, this doesn’t mean that the person who made the claim, or anyone else, automatically has the right to get the money.

If the money isn’t paid to Public Trust within 45 working days after the award is filed in the High Court, something interesting happens. The award becomes like a judgment from the High Court. This means you can enforce it like you would a court decision, but you still have to follow the rules in this Act.
