This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

The House of Representatives can decide to add land to the parliamentary precincts if the Crown or the Parliamentary Corporation owns it. You can think of the parliamentary precincts as the area around Parliament. The House of Representatives can also decide to remove land from this area. If the House of Representatives makes this decision, it is called secondary legislation, which means it is a type of law (see Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019 for more information about this). The Legislation Act 2019 has rules about how this type of law is published. The Clerk must send a copy of the decision to the Parliamentary Counsel Office so it can be published. The Parliamentary Counsel Office will help make sure the decision is available to the public. This is so you can find out about changes to the parliamentary precincts. The decision will be published according to the rules in the Legislation Act 2019.
